Український конґресовий комітет Америки: історія, виклики та сучасна підтримка України

Заступник директора департаменту культури і туризму Ігор Кульчицький провів зустріч із Марією Дмитрів-Капеняк, президентом Українського конґресового комітету Америки (відділ Іллінойс), та Марією Дзюмою, скарбником УККА. У ході спілкування обговорювалися питання підтримки України українською діаспорою, допомоги літнім людям, військовим, внутрішньо переміщеним особам та інші актуальні виклики.

Марія Дзюма наголосила, що українці не визначаються територіально, а є тими, хто має Україну в серці. Вона зазначила, що Український конґресовий комітет Америки був заснований у 1940 році в Нью-Йорку та об’єднав українців, які активно співпрацюють з урядом США. Ще у 1948 році саме завдяки УККА багато українських біженців знайшли порятунок. Біда об’єднала всі хвилі еміграції, і, на жаль, єднає українців досі.

Діаспора розпочала свою активну волонтерську діяльність ще 1 грудня 2013 року, після подій на Майдані. Відтоді вона працює у багатьох напрямах, від інформаційної підтримки до фінансової допомоги. Українці в Америці ведуть активний діалог з конгресменами та політиками, які впливають на прийняття важливих рішень на міжнародному рівні. Як зазначила Марія Дмитрів-Капеняк, зараз значно більше людей залучено до політичної активності, що позитивно впливає на підтримку України в США.

Зі свого боку Ігор Кульчицький підкреслив важливість поширення інформації про діяльність діаспори, оскільки українцям вкрай необхідно чути про міжнародну підтримку. Він наголосив, що війна ведеться на всіх рівнях, зокрема і в інформаційному просторі, і подякував діаспорі та благодійникам за їхню роботу й підтримку.

Марія Дзюма розповіла, що діаспора не лише інформує, а й активно допомагає фінансово, спрямовуючи кошти на закупівлю машин, бронежилетів та іншого необхідного спорядження для українських захисників. 

Зараз увесь світ спостерігає за Україною та захоплюється її стійкістю. Саме тому важливо продовжувати працювати разом, підтримувати один одного та рухатися до перемоги.

Ukrainian Congress Committee of America: History, Challenges, and Modern Support for Ukraine 

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Ihor Kulchytskyi, held a meeting with Maria Dmytriv-Kapeniak, President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (Illinois branch), and Maria Dziuma, Treasurer of the UCCA. During the discussion, they addressed issues of support for Ukraine by the Ukrainian diaspora, assistance to the elderly, military personnel, internally displaced persons, and other pressing challenges.  

Maria Dziuma emphasized that Ukrainians are not defined by geography but by having Ukraine in their hearts. She noted that the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America was founded in 1940 in New York, bringing together Ukrainians who actively cooperate with the U.S. government. As early as 1948, thanks to the UCCA, many Ukrainian refugees found safety. Hardship has united all waves of emigration, and unfortunately, it continues to unite Ukrainians today.  

The diaspora began its active volunteer efforts on December 1, 2013, following the events on Maidan. Since then, it has worked in numerous areas, from informational support to financial aid. Ukrainian Americans maintain an active dialogue with congressmen and politicians who influence critical decisions on the international stage. As Maria Dmytriv-Kapeniak pointed out, today, significantly more people are involved in political activism, which positively impacts U.S. support for Ukraine.

 

For his part, Ihor Kulchytskyi emphasized the importance of spreading information about the diaspora’s activities, as Ukrainians critically need to hear about international support. He stressed that the war is being fought on all fronts, including the information space, and expressed gratitude to the diaspora and benefactors for their work and support.

 

Maria Dziuma shared that the diaspora not only informs but also actively provides financial assistance, directing funds to purchase vehicles, bulletproof vests, and other necessary equipment for Ukrainian defenders.   

The whole world is watching Ukraine and admiring its resilience. That is why it is crucial to continue working together, supporting one another, and moving toward victory.
